Little Billys Big Push

29/09/11

Doyle Consultants Limited would like to thank everyone involved for their generous offers of funding and support towards The William Smith Appeal.

On Saturday 24th September 2011 Doyle employees, families and friends gathered at Thurgoland Cricket Club before setting out on the gruelling, fun and rewarding eight mile trek. An eight mile hike alone is no mean feat, yet the group did this whilst also pushing a bed the full distance.

There had been a terrific start with the fantastic corporate sponsorship we had received from Taylor Wimpey, The Elevator Company, Signs Extra, Munkee Bizness, Cascade Water Systems and G & A Transport. Andy Nicholson, Managing Director of Doyle Consultants, originally came up with the idea of the bed push and the promise of physical and financial support.

Saturday turned out to be a fantastic day, the sun shone and a good crowd of walkers and supporters turned out. The Barnsley Chronicle visited before the start and took some photos and details which we hope will appear in a forthcoming edition of the paper. William and his family arrived and had decided to walk along with the throng. The walkers were in good spirits as they set off along the Trans Pennine Trail, with Doyle's senior management taking the bed off at a swift pace. The pace dropped only to let the stragglers catch up and those with short legs jump on the bed for a bit of a rest. People travelling on the trail were surprised to see this merry little group and many were happy to give encouragement and money towards our cause.

In total the walk took about three and a half hours with a short rest in Penistone. On arrival back at Thurgoland Cricket field the group were greeted by William's Grandparents who had the barbeque and drinks ready for us. After some suitable refreshments, Andy Nicholson thanked everyone for coming and supporting the appeal and was followed by James (William's Father) who said he was grateful for the kindness that they had been shown and that they really appreciated everyone's support.

The cot costs £5,000, the latest estimate would put the current total at £4,200. For this fantastic effort we would like to thank everyone who has made a donation, corporate sponsors and participants. With out the fantastic input and effort from each of these we wouldn’t be so close to achieving our magic number. We are now waiting for promised sponsor money to come in and once all the funds have arrived we will publish the final figure.

‘Little Billy’s Big Push’ is in aid of William Smith, a baby who needs a specialised cot just to stay alive after been diagnosed with Dysphagia, Lyngomalacia, Reflux and Aspiration Lung Damage.

Once again many thanks for all the support we have received. Everyone’s kindness is really appreciated.
